What we know.... Samuel Nelson ( around 70 yrs) and five (Hugh had passed) of his sons "The Oiginal Six" sought status as members of the Mississippi Choctaw Nation in 1903. From the sworn affidavits submitted to the Department of Interior on behalf of the Choctaw Nation, we know Nelson's Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather’s names .... and more. Samuel and his son's were eventually denied Indian status due to lack of supporting documentation.
